7 Days Tour - "Unseen & Amazing Lanna Kingdom"
After a few minutes we are already on the first mountain roads of the beautiful Samoeng Loop. We visit Doi Angkhang and Doi Mae Salong with its scenic beauty and tea plantations.
We will also go to rather more famous or infamous places like the Golden Triangle, where Laos, Myanmar and Thailand meet and where in previous decades the opium poppy provided a living to many people until it was stopped in the 1996 after the death of Khun Sa, a legendary war lord. We will continue to the mountains of Phu Chi Fa, a remote area which offers great motorcycle roads.
Along the way you visit also some of the lesser known treasures like mysterious Nan, which for centuries remained autonomous and cut off from the outside world and the little village of Bo Kluea, famous for its stunning views and its unique salt wells, all the time riding through wonderful landscapes of rivers and mountains.

DAY BY DAY
(B/L/D) = (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)
1. Day Chiang Mai – Arrival (-/-/D)
In the evening you meet your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner and a tour presentation and motorcycle handover. We will discuss the itinerary, basic group riding rules and about the local riding environment, and answer any questions that you may have. We will stay overnight in Chiang Mai.
2. Day Chiang Mai – Thaton (-/L/D)
After only a few Km we have left Chiang Mai behind and follow the first amazing corners of the Samoeng Loop. We pass the Mae Sa Elephant Camp where we can stop to visit the amazing pachyderms (not included). We continue on Road 107 for a short while before we follow rural back roads on our way up north. We are now heading for Doi Angkhang, following the Thai – Myanmar border.
There are a couple of scenic stops on the way. Then we take a zigzagging road back towards the main road. This road is a bit technical and has some narrow switch backs. In the afternoon we reach Thaton, a small town on the banks of the Kok River, bordering with Myanmar. Enjoy a splendid view from Wat Thaton over the town and the vicinity. We continue to the nearby Mae Kok River Village Resort, where we stay for the night.
3. Day Thaton – Golden Triangle – Chiang Khong (B/L/D)
We leave Thaton and ascend to Doi Mae Salong on amazing twisty mountainous roads. Doi Mae Salong is a Chinese settlement which was built by a division of the Chinese Nationalist Army that refused to surrender to Chinese communists after the Nationalist Kuomintang government was routed in 1949.
Today the village still offers a native Chinese cuisine, lovely houses with flowers and countless tea plantations as far as the eyes can see. We proceed through farm villages along rice paddies and stop at the impressive Choui Fong Tea House. The tea house of this huge plantation serves all kind of different tea blends and great cakes. Enjoy the scenery!
We continue to the legendary Golden Triangle where the three borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. Here we drive up to the Wat Sop Ruak temple to enjoy a great view over the Golden Triangle. In the small but interesting local Opium Museum we can learn more about Khun Sa and the opium trade in the past. Before we reach Chiang Khong we stop at the View Coffee, an amazing spot overlooking the Mekong River. We stay overnight in Chiang Khong.
4. Day Chiang Khong – Phu Chi Fah – Nan(B/L/D)
We ride through some scenic mountain landscapes with plenty of twisties up to Phu Chi Fah. Phu Chi Fa is located on the border between Thailand and Laos. It’s a great ride up here - the scenery is spectacular with lots of photo opportunities. Since Phu Chi Fa is fairly remote, there are not many tourists who make it to this part of Thailand. If time permits and the weather clear, we will ride up to the view point and can walk to the cliff on the border to Laos.
We continue to Phulangka and for the next hundred km or so we ride through countless bends through yet more beautiful landscapes. We rejoin the main road again and follow it to our final destination of the day which is the capital of Nan province and is also called Nan. For centuries Nan was a separate, autonomous Kingdom with few relationships to the outside world. Now, the city is a beautiful town with many well preserved temples.
5. Day Nan – Bo Kluea – Nan (B/L/D)
In the morning we visit the most beautiful temple in Nan, Wat Phumin. The temple was built as if it were on the back of two immense snakes. For bikers the area around Nan is a little known treasure and without any doubt the road to Bo Kluea offers some of the best riding in all of Thailand. We follow Road 1169 to reach 1081 which is fantastic road with plenty of bends and curves with little traffic and which will make this day an unforgettable riding experience.
The tiny village of Bo Kluea is located in a scenic valley close to the Lao border - remote and picturesque. “Bo Kluea” means salt well as the village has raised around two natural saltwater wells which have been used for centuries. We have an early lunch with a nice view at Bo Kluea View Resort before heading back to Nan on more twisty roads where we stay overnight.
6. Day Nan – Phayao – Chiang Mai (B/L/D)
After breakfast we drive from Nan in a western direction. During the last day of our motorcycle tour we cruise once again hilly roads via Phayao to Chiang Mai. In Phayao we enjoy a nice lunch by the lake before we arrive back in Chiang Mai in the afternoon.
