If you choose to fly straight to Thailand this day will consist mostly of flying and involves getting to Bangkok with enough time for a 2.5-hour transfer to our first hotel. For your peace of mind, you will be met at the airport upon arrival and transfer will be arranged to Chaolao, where we will stay the first night. You’ll need to arrive by mid or late afternoon so we have time for some bike paperwork, and we’ll have a meet ‘n’ greet before we have our first dinner together. Overnight at the beautiful sand beach of Chaolao.
We start the day cruising in an eastern direction, partially along the coast, passing fishing villages, beaches, shrimp farms, etc. In Chantaburi, we turn right and follow the provincial road towards the Cambodian border – an easy and enjoyable ride. In the later afternoon, we cross the Thai – Cambodia border and arrive in Hat Lek, the first small town on the Cambodia side. From here we pass Koh Kong and arrive at our little Resort by the Tatai River. Overnight near Koh Kong.
Today we will continue to Sihanoukville riding many twists and nice bends in great scenery. On the way, we will enjoy the scenic views through the forests and mountains and can also see the life of Cambodians in the countryside. Most locals live from agriculture such as growing rice and other crops. We will enter Sihanoukville through back roads following the coast. There are some beautiful beaches in this area. Set around a deep-water port on a peninsula jutting into the Gulf of Thailand, the provincial capital of Sihanoukville is lined with palm-fringed beaches, seafood restaurants and bars. We will stay at one of the beautiful beaches a bit south of town. Overnight in Sihanoukville.
We continue following the Cambodian coast in the east direction towards Kep. We ride up to Phnom Bokor which is one of the most beautiful and mystical National Parks of Southeast Asia. It covers 140 thousand hectares of untouched mountain jungle and the biggest herd of wild elephants in Southeast Asia. During the French colonial times, the area was a holiday retreat due to its high altitude and cooler climate. Before we reach Kep we have a break at a pepper plantation. The pepper from this area is known to be one of the best in the world. Kep itself is a charming small seaside town located on a group of hills going down to the beach. With a little imagination, you feel you are in a sleepy seaside resort in Brittany or Normandy. In the evening we shall enjoy a seafood dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight in Kep.
The final destination of the day, Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. We will visit the “Killing Fields' ' on the way, which will give you some information about the sad history of Cambodia. Phnom Penh is a chaotic, energetic and fascinating city by the mighty Mekong River. Graceful tree-lined boulevards and riverfront promenades are reminders of bygone eras; today they teem with life and activity, as motorcycles weave in and out of traffic, vendors hawk their wares, and pedestrians go about their business. On our way through the Cambodian countryside, we will use roads less traveled, passing endless villages. Plenty of photo opportunities with the locals. Overnight in Phnom Penh.
After visiting some of the main landmarks of Phnom Penh in the morning we will continue our ride to Siem Reap. Some sections we do on easy gravel as we are passing quaint, small villages on our way to the most famous province in Cambodia. Siem Reap is located in northwestern Cambodia. There is Colonial and Chinese-style architecture in the Old French Quarter, and around the Old Market. Siem Reap has become a popular tourist destination and has a large number of hotels, resorts, restaurants and businesses. This is much owed to its proximity to the Angkor temples, the most popular tourist attraction in Cambodia if not South East Asia. We will have dinner downtown at the walking street. There are plenty of pubs with live music in the area, enjoy! Overnight in Siem Reap.
Today will be a cultural day. Angkor Wat is a “once in a lifetime experience”. It is the national symbol and the highlight of any visit to Cambodia. Angkor Wat impresses visitors by both its sheer scale and beautifully proportioned layout, as well as the delicate artistry of its carvings.
Angkor Thom, the fortified city covers an area of 10 square km. Enclosed by a wall and wide moats, the city includes many of Angkor's most popular sights. The highlight is the visit at Ta Prom, one of the most popular attractions of Angkor as much of the jungle has not been cleared and it looks as most of the Angkor monuments would have appeared when European explorers first stumbled across them. Our local Khmer guide will bring you around the temple complexes and explain the history. The best way to explore is by rickshaw. Plan to leave after breakfast and allocate a minimum half-day including lunch. Overnight in Siem Reap.
Leaving Siem Reap we ride in a north-western direction. First stop is the silk farm where we get familiar with the ancient way of producing silk. At Kralanh we turn north and spend the rest of the day on rural roads on our way to the Thai border. We are passing a couple of small towns on our way and will take the opportunity to stop at one of the local markets. Lunch at a local Khmer restaurant. Once back in Thailand the road quality improves significantly and we quickly cover the remaining distance to Buriram. Overnight Buriram or its surroundings.
The Thailand Motorcycle Grand Prix is a MotoGP event that started in 2018. The race is hosted at Chang International Circuit just outside the city of Buriram. We have two days in front of us to enjoy a VIP stand with a great view of the 4.5 km race track and close to the main race precinct. Today there are practice sessions and race qualifying. Transport between our hotel and the race track will be organized. Overnight Buriram or its surroundings.
Today is the main event. Together with 250’000 other motorcycle enthusiasts, we will watch the warm-ups and the main races of all the three MotoGP categories. It’s a great spectacle and an enjoyable experience.
After breakfast check out and transfer to Bangkok Airport or downtown Bangkok. We are arranging one departure transfer. Transit time to Bangkok is approximately 6 hours. Please don’t book a flight departure before 4 pm.
