With the help of a local guide, we explored the famous ancient watchtowers of Danba and visited traditional Tibetan homes to learn more about local life, architecture, and customs that have been preserved for generations. From mountain villages and warm hospitality to incredible local food, today offered a deeper connection to the people and culture that make this region so special. Today’s ride took us deeper into the heart of Tibetan culture, following scenic mountain roads lined with traditional villages, green pasturelands, and dramatic river valleys. Crossing over Yala Pass, we were rewarded with incredible panoramic views before descending into Danba — a region famous for its ancient stone watchtowers, rich Tibetan heritage, and breathtaking landscapes. Often called the “Valley of Beauties,” Danba offers a unique glimpse into the traditions and daily life of the Tibetan Qiang communities that have lived here for generations. CHIANG MAI TO THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA Day 10 — Daocheng → Yajiang ?? Today’s ride brought us across some of the highest and most spectacular terrain of the entire journey. We climbed over Haizi Mountain and reached Litang — one of the highest towns in the world at over 4,000 meters above sea level. Endless grasslands, glacial landscapes, snow-covered peaks, and traditional Tibetan nomad camps made this day feel truly remote and unforgettable. After Litang, the adventure continued even higher as we crossed a mountain pass near 4,600 meters before descending through incredible canyon roads toward Yajiang along the Yarlung River. Today we rode deeper into the Tibetan frontier, crossing into Sichuan Province and entering the legendary Kham region of Eastern Tibet. The route followed remote river valleys, dramatic mountain gorges, and winding highland roads as the scenery became more rugged and spectacular with every kilometer. Along the way we passed traditional Tibetan communities, prayer flags, and landscapes that felt completely untouched. Climbing higher into the Hendun mountain range, the altitude and atmosphere began to change as we approached the Tibetan plateau. By late afternoon we arrived in Lijiang, one of China’s most beautiful UNESCO World Heritage cities. With its winding canals, traditional Naxi architecture, stone streets, and mountain backdrop, the Old Town feels like stepping into another era.
